Detrace - Terms

These services are run for free, in our spare time, for anyone who wants independent infrastructure instead of handing everything to large platforms. Use them reasonably, do not use them to hurt people, and understand that nothing here comes with a guarantee.

no warranty

Everything is provided "as is," with no guarantee of uptime, correctness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Services break, get rate-limited by the platforms they front, or go offline without notice (see: Piped, currently broken because YouTube changed something). We are not liable for data loss, downtime, or anything else that goes wrong from using these services.

acceptable use

harass, threaten, or dox another person; distribute malware, phishing content, or child sexual abuse material; commit fraud or theft; attack or attempt to compromise other systems; violate the rights of others; or otherwise break the law in a way that involves someone getting hurt.

Using a privacy tool, front-end, or downloader to access or view content is not, by itself, a violation of these terms. This clause exists for actual harm, not for using the internet privately.

accounts and data

Where a service requires an account (Matrix, XMPP, Vaultwarden), you are responsible for what you store and what you do while logged in. See the privacy page for exactly what each service logs, caches, or stores, and for how long.

We can suspend or delete an account without notice if it is being used to violate the acceptable use section above, or to abuse the underlying infrastructure (spam, scraping at destructive volume, etc).

third party platforms

Several services here are front-ends for platforms we do not control (YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, Wikipedia, IMDb, Stack Overflow, Quora, Imgur, and so on). We do not control their availability, rate limits, or content, and we are not responsible for what is hosted on those platforms. When they change their systems, our front-end for them may break until it is fixed or replaced.

These terms and the service list itself can change as services are added, removed, or replaced. Check back if you want the current state, we are not going to email you about it.
